Western GeoPower, a renewable energy company, develops geothermal energy projects for generating electricity. The company has developed two geothermal projects, namely, Unit 1 geothermal power plant at The Geysers and the South Meager geothermal project. The South Meager geothermal project is located nearly 170km north of Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.
The location of the South Meager geothermal project area is 55km northwest of Pemberton in the Upper Lillooet River watershed. The South Meager location was found to be a high temperature geothermal field measuring up to 270 degrees Celsius temperature and covers an area of 4.5sq.km to 7.5sq.km.
Since late 1970s, the South Meager area has been examined using different types of exploration techniques. The result of the exploration identified the South Meager field to be a high temperature field and an important geothermal site having 100 megawatts or even more potential capacity. GeothermEx, an authorized geothermal consulting firm, has confirmed that the South Meager geothermal project has capacity to support 100 megawatts power plant that is equal to providing electricity up to 80,000 households.
